A grassroots 12 hour mountain bike race.  2012 will mark our 6th year as a 12 hour race - 10th year for race venue.  Race time is 7 AM to 7 PM.  100% of the race proceeds benefit local non-profits. Montezuma County Partners, a local, 501(c)3 non-profit, organization that has been mentoring at-risk youth for over 20 years has been our primary beneficiary.  The race committee for this event continues to be 100% volunteer.

 

Race course:
Racers will ride on a stellar network of singletrack known as Phil's World - in the shadow of Mesa Verde.  The race course twists and turns through juniper trees, intermittent technical spots, and fast descents.  The trail will be marked the week before the race.  Area maps are available at from Big Loop Maps or at Kokopelli Bike & Board

Event location:
The 12 hours of Mesa Verde is staged at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds in Cortez, Colorado, and utilizes 16+ miles of the Phil's World trail system. 

Camping:
Camping is available for no charge at the Fairgrounds for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.  Venue opens Thursday at 5:00 PM.  Please do not come early.  RV hookups will not be available.  Campfires are allowed in fire pans only or a similar "leave no trace" type device, in designated areas only.  Water is available and there will be portajohns.

Food and Beverages:
Lotsa Pasta will once again be there serving great food during the race starting at 3 PM and will provide a FREE meal at the race venue to every racer and volunteer (this will be their 10th year). 

Weather:
The weather can vary dramtically and has proved so throughout the years of doing this race.  2007 was smokin' hot, 2008 was definitely cooler, and 2009 was just right, 2010 was good but windy.  However, even in cool, wet weather the trail can stay in perfect tacky condition.  Cortez Weather Link

Lap and time tracking:
We use a computer program, Bad Ass Race Time by Big Loop Maps, to track lap times.  Racers and spectators can view lap times, placement, and statistics at anytime during the event on a dedicated computer.  *We are working live web tracking.

Awards and schwag:
Racers registered before March 31st* receive a T-shirt and racer packet. There will be custom trophies and plenty of great prizes at the awards celebration which will be held at the event staging area immediately after the end of the race.  *Registrations received after March 31st are not guaranteed a t-shirt.
